Boat Washdown Water Supply Requirements
A marina in Dorset required a reliable boat washdown water supply solution to meet both operational and regulatory requirements. Wessex Water had enforced the need for CAT 5 break tank systems on water supplies used for boat washdown and general water supply across the site.
This requirement was introduced to prevent possible cross contamination of the mains water supply. Because the marina’s outlets were used in a marine environment, the system needed to provide the correct level of backflow protection while still delivering strong and consistent water pressure.
In addition, the marina needed improved pressure for its boat washdown systems. The existing supply was not providing the performance required across all washdown and water supply outlets.
The Powertank Water Boosting Solution
Once the requirements were clear, we selected the Powertank water boosting system as the ideal solution. The site needed two key outcomes: CAT 5 break tank compliance for Wessex Water approval and increased water pressure for boat washdown.
Powertank units combine a break tank and pump system in one compact package. They are designed to increase water pressure and flow while also offering CAT 5 AB air gap protection where required.
AB air gaps are suitable for fluid category 5 applications. In this case, they helped protect the mains water supply from contamination while allowing the marina to maintain reliable water supply to its washdown areas.
The result
We supplied three Powertank units to serve the washdown and water supply outlets across the marina. Because Powertank systems are available in a wide range of tank sizes, we were able to select the right unit for each application and available installation space.
The completed systems now provide the pressure and flow required across the site. Most importantly, the installations were approved by Wessex Water, giving the marina a compliant and reliable boat washdown water supply solution.
