Category | Borehole Pumps & Water Treatment

Requirements
A poultry farm in Somerset needed a complete water treatment solution for a new site. The onsite borehole water supply was not suitable for drinking water, which meant it could not be used safely for the chickens.
Water quality is important for poultry farming because it can affect bird welfare and egg production. Therefore, the farm needed a reliable system that could treat the raw borehole water and provide clean, consistent water across the site.
A water analysis report showed high levels of sulphates, iron, turbidity, hardness and bacteria. As a result, the system needed to remove impurities, improve water quality and deliver the correct pressure and volume for daily farm use.
The Solution
We designed a complete package for the site. This included raw water pumping, water treatment and final boosting around the new farm.
Backwash flow rates were an important part of the design. In addition, the treated water had to be supplied at the right pressure and volume for the farm’s requirements.
Equipment Supplied:
● Borehole pump & motor
● Turbidex filter to remove sediment and oxidised Iron, anti-scalant dosing system to protect the RO membranes from scale
● Reverse osmosis system to remove Sulphates and all other impurities and UV system to deactivate bacteria
● pH correction to re-mineralise the water after RO treatment
● Powerboost Flow V 2-pump variable speed set to pump the treated water from the onsite storage tank around the farm to the chickens as required

The result
The farm now has an integrated pumping and water treatment system. It provides highly purified water to the egg-laying chickens and delivers the pressure needed across the site. Because the system was designed and supplied as one complete package, the controls are easier for the client to use. The farm now benefits from reliable treated water, improved water quality and a system built around its daily operating needs.
